Power, PDU & Networking Solutions for Military Active Protection System Program

The use of active protection on ground vehicles is now a widely adopted solution, especially considering developments in radar, LIDAR, infrared, and other sensor technologies coupled with high-speed processing capabilities. Enercon Technologies supplies various technologies for this APS application.

Enercon Technologies customized version of M4054 VPX DC/DC power supply and customized power distribution unit (PDU) support an Active Protection System (APS) program of the US Army. The program addresses a critical safety and protection requirements for soldiers operating in ground vehicles. Our MILTECH 912 and MILTECH 9012C from our new rugged Ethernet networking solutions are also part of this program.

The first primary challenge Enercon Technologies assisted the customer in overcoming was identifying a SOSA-aligned power supply in excess of 600W of total power, operating up to 85⁰C, with an integrated EMI filter compliant to MIL-STD-461. The second challenge was the ability to pass rigorous safety testing requirements. Two products were identified for this application to help overcome these challenges:... read more

Enercon and Techaya Join Forces to Deliver Single Source for Subsystem Power and Networking on Military and Aerospace Platforms

Thursday, 24 December, 2020

Synergies include customers, platform programs, world-class leadership in military rugged design and SWaP for COTS, tailored, and customized solutions

Enercon Technologies, Ltd. (Enercon) today announced its acquisition of Techaya, expanding the company’s investment in delivering industry-leading, integrated power and power management solutions to now include networking solutions for its military and aerospace customers. The combined operations can now produce more integrated SWaP -centric solutions specifically designed for system-level networking, power and power management needs in military applications.

“Both Enercon and Techaya customers design unique military platforms that require both high-quality power and networking solutions, usually in a constrained footprint, that can mean mission success or failure,” said Eyal Shary, CEO of Enercon. “By leveraging a mature power solution with a mature networking solution and acquiring that capability from a single manufacturer, our customers can simplify subsystem integration, mitigate risk, and shorten their design schedule.”

The two companies have an industry reputation for dense, SWaP designs with a bedrock in ruggedness. This approach has created a solid reputation in the market delivering the guaranteed quality necessary for mission-critical military applications, while being able to deliver COTS, tailored and customized solutions when needed.

“The acquisition will provide streamlined sales channels and design capabilities to many of the companies’ shared customers and programs of record,” said Tsahi Sucher, Techaya co-founder. “Techaya and Enercon will benefit from efficiencies such as faster prototyping from spec, consolidation of logistics, and capitalizing on similar manufacturing requirements to consolidate subcontracting, supply partners, components, and engineering skillsets.”

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Enercon Technologies achieves CE certification on three new products for European market

Wednesday, 28 October, 2020

As part of a multi-year business strategy to grow our European business, the decision was made to attain CE certification on some of our products. Although our products are REACH qualified, there is now a mandatory requirement for CE Marking for each product shipped to Europe. In early 2020, we received a number of strategic customer requirements for the purchase of standard products with CE Marking, associated primarily with civilian products. Compliance with the requirements for product marking in CE includes EMC and SAFETY tests (dielectric strength tests at 4.25kV) according to IEC62368-1 and other standards beyond compliance with MIL-STD requirements. Enercon Technologies then went to work on getting three customer-driven products CE certified in 2020.

The products achieving the CE Certification are M1986 300W AC/DC Power Supply, M3916 500W AC/DC Power Supply, and the M4916 AC filter. Standard requirements require a completely different design solution in each design parameter from that known in the military and aviation field from the PCB to a connector level.  For example:

  • PCB - Constraints between input to output of the order of 5 times at PCB layout in high voltage areas
  • Mechanical design - Maintaining creepage distance of 5mm per IEC 62368-1
  • Input Connector - Setting up a D-TYPE military safety connector for high voltages that customers prefer can be difficult to find
  • Components - Use with approved components that meet SAFETY requirements – Units were redesigned with TUV certified components
  • Magnetics - Use of approved magnetic components, not Enercon's custom made magnetics
  • Coating - Designing the unit for parylene coating instead of the standard Humiseal 1A33 coating

Given the full range of requirements, we were able to preserve the unit's size, rigidity and functionality while at the same time improving EMI performance, productivity and more.   We were able to meet IEC62368-1 while at the same time still meeting MIL-STD-461 EMI requirements.

The design process included intensive learning of the new standards requirements, an accelerated design process (electrical / mechanical / PCB design), characterization and procurement of LLI components, coordination of laboratories for certification tests and more.... read more

ENERCON TECHNOLOGIES HONORED BY 2020 MILITARY & AEROSPACE ELECTRONICS INNOVATORS AWARDS

Wednesday, 19 August, 2020

Enercon Technologies, a leading designer and manufacturer of power supplies, converters, inverters and UPS systems for the defense and aerospace industry, has been recognized among the best by the 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the aerospace and defense community recognized Enercon Technologies as a Silver honoree.

“On behalf of the Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Enercon Technologies on their Silver honoree status,” said Military & Aerospace Electronics Editor in Chief John Keller. “This competitive program allows Military & Aerospace Electronics to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the aerospace and defense community this year.”

The M4054 is a VITA 62 Compliant 3U DC/DC power supply that is SOSA aligned for 12VDC heavy payload applications.  Its flexible design allows it to be configured to support airborne applications per MIL-STD-704 and ground applications per MIL-STD-1275 & Def Stan 61-5.  The M4054 has significant power density, yielding an unprecedented power output of up to 800W from a 3U chassis, an industry first in this form factor.  The M4054 system management IPMB supports VITA 46.11 Tier I protocol.  Its communication system is cyber secure and cannot be hacked by external agents. Additionally, it can be paralleled for higher-powered applications.  An innovative active current-share option is available to provide closed-loop current balance with automatic compensation that is superior to the standard VITA 62 current-share method.
