A media converter is a device that enables communication between different network media types, such as Copper and Fiber optic connections. In aerospace and defense environments, media converters improve long-distance data transmission, reduce signal interference, and support secure, high-speed communication in harsh operating conditions.
The media converters support multimode and single mode fiber at 1G and up to 10G depending on the model, with WDM (single-strand bidirectional) as an option. Single mode links reach roughly 30 km per the fiber option tables, and the line as a whole extends LAN distance well beyond copper limits. The exact fiber type, speed, and connector are selected through the ordering code, so define both fiber ports (and copper port count) when you build the part number.
Yes. They are orderable as non-PoE, as a Powered Device (PD) that draws power from the network, or as Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) that feeds downstream devices, with support for 802.3af, 802.3at, and 802.3bt including higher-wattage budgets.
